My Top 5 Favorite Girls of the Year

Hi everyone! I’ve decided to talk to you today about my five favorite Girl of the Year dolls that American Girl has released so far. 😉

You all probably know what the Girl of the Year dolls are, but just in case you don’t, I’ll explain. Every year, starting in 2001, American Girl has released a doll that is known as the “Girl of the Year”. This doll, unlike the historical characters, is one whose story is set in the present day, and she usually has one or two main interests that are reflected in her book (or books) and collection. For example, last year’s GOTY, Isabelle, was a dancer who also liked to sew, so in her collection, there was a ballet barre and dance outfits along with a sewing machine and materials.

So…without further ado, here are my five favorite Girls of the Year! 🙂

5. Jess McConnell-Jess was the GOTY in 2006. I was pretty young then, so I wasn’t all that interested in her at the time. 😉 Now, however, I think she is a really adorable doll. Her collection was so cool! (I especially loved her motorscooter. 🙂 ) I also loved the fact that she was a doll of mixed heritage (Asian and something else…not sure what 😉 ). I didn’t really care for her book, though. For some reason it sort of bored me. I don’t think I made it past chapter one, to be honest with you.

4. Kailey Hopkins-Kailey was the Girl of the Year in 2003. I really liked the whole beach\tide pool theme that Kailey’s collection had (her boogie board, wet suit, etc.), and I enjoyed her book, which involved Kailey, her family, and her friends trying to save the tide pools from a developer who wanted to build a fancy hotel on top of them. The Kailey doll was sort of ordinary, with blond hair and brown eyes, but personally I thought she was a very cute doll. Her “meet” dress was adorable, too….I loved the aqua color!

3. Chrissa Maxwell-Chrissa was the GOTY for 2009, and her collection was completely different from the other girls’. For one thing, she had TWO best friend dolls (Gwen and Sonali) accompanying her, and Chrissa was also the first Girl of the Year to have a movie (watch it—it’s really good!). I really liked the fact that Chrissa was a swimmer (I’m not one myself, but I do really like to swim, and I thought it was unique). Her bathing suit was really cute, too. 🙂

2. Marisol Luna-I remember Marisol a little bit, but not too much. When I was in second or third grade, I read her book for the first time and loved it! I eventually got my own copy of the book, and finished re-reading it recently. Unlike Isabelle, Marisol (who was also interested in dance) attended a regular public school, and was a star player at two-square (a recess game). I liked the fact that dance didn’t control every single part of Marisol’s life—it seemed to be that way with Isabelle.

1. Nicki Fleming-Right around the time Nicki came out was when I was really getting into American Girl, so that’s one reason why she is my favorite Girl of the Year. I have read her books countless times (she was the first GOTY to have two books!) and have never tired of them. Nicki led a very active life. Besides training a service dog, she often went skiing with her best friend, planned her school’s end-of-the-year gala, and helped out around the ranch and house (since her mother was going to have twins!). I loved how Nicki’s books focused on several different interests of hers, not just one. 🙂

Well, I hope you all enjoyed learning about who my five favorite Girls of the Year were! I’d love to hear your opinions on the subject, too.

Have a great night! 🙂

My Opinions on AG’s Fall Release

Hi everybody! Happy Labor Day! Today I thought I’d share with you all my opinions about the new items (and dolls!) that American Girl released a few weeks ago. I’ve decided not to share my opinions on every item that was released, because it would take me a long time, and also I like pretty much everything that was released for Beforever.

So here are my three favorite and least favorite new Beforever items.

Maryellen Doll and Book-Maryellen is absolutely gorgeous! I love the fact that she has red hair…not blonde! 😀 Her meet outfit is super adorable, although I’m not too crazy about the black “M” on her little blue shrug. 😉 Maryellen’s books are great too; I’m currently in the process of reading them (I got them out of my library). I’m really happy that AG decided to release a character from the 50s.

Maryellen’s School Outfit-This is probably my favorite outfit from the Maryellen release. I love the fact that it’s purple, and the checkered design is super cute!

Maryellen’s Birthday Dress-For some reason this dress makes me think of The Little Mermaid. 😉 I think it looks absolutely stunning on Maryellen. I would love to wear this dress on my birthday…I think any girl would! I mean, just look at it: the ruffles, the sash, and the adorable little flower in the center of the dress! 🙂

Least Favorites:

Maryellen’s Sofa Bed Set-This doesn’t look like something from the 50s at all! For some reason (probably because of the bright colors) it looks like it could be from the 70s or 80s.

Maryellen Living Room Set-This isn’t bad, but it just looks kind of cheap to me. And honestly, $58 for a table and a bunch of teeny tiny accessories is kind of ridiculous in my opinion.

Maryellen’s Pajamas-These kinda make Maryellen look like a puffball…XD Okay, maybe I’m exaggerating a little, but these do look sort of strange on her.

Now let’s move on to Truly Me!

Popcorn Machine-I love fake doll food, so I was really excited when I saw this. Everything in this set is super cute, especially the little sodas! And the price really isn’t bad either.

Gorgeous Gold Outfit-The name for this dress really says it all: it’s a beautiful golden color, and it is VERY gorgeous! This dress, in my opinion, is one of the best holiday outfits that AG has ever released. I love how it comes with a wristlet/mini purse, too!

Warm Winter Accessories-These are cute! I love the color scheme.

Least Favorites:

Sparkle Spotlight Outfit-I honestly don’t understand why so many people are in love with this outfit. I really don’t care for it at all! No one wears shorts in the winter, not even with tights (at least no one that I’ve seen). And the tights just look weird with this outfit.

2-in-1 Gymnastics Outfit-I really am not a fan of the outfits here. Plus it only comes with one pair of shorts for some odd reason… :/

Warm Winter Outfit-I like the sweater here (even though it’s kind of a weird shape), but I don’t like the tights and the shoes.

Those are my opinions on the new releases, guys! Hope you all enjoyed–and I’d love to hear your opinions on the new stuff too. 🙂

Bye for now!

American Girl Flashback: American Girl of Today-2004

Wow, it sure has been a while since I’ve done one of these, hasn’t it? 🙂 Really sorry about that, guys! I would probably do it more often but it’s a pain to upload pictures to the computer and it takes me forever. 😉 But I will really work on trying to get these up more often, because I know (well, hope, that is) that you all enjoy them.

Today we’ll be looking at some of the things that were in the American Girl of Today (or Truly Me 😉 ) collection back in 2004. First we’ll see what was new for the dolls that summer!

This was the “introductory page” to the Today line at the time. Every season, the dolls would be dressed in different outfits. In this catalog, since it was summer, the dolls were dressed in summery clothes! 🙂

Here’s what the dolls looked like at the time. That meet outfit actually looks pretty nice to me, although I have a feeling most young girls would disagree with me. 😉

Here’s  a closer look at the dolls. Most of them weren’t even displayed in the catalog, which I think is kind of strange! Plus, AG had a special deal where you could get Coconut along with one of the Girl of Today dolls. They had this deal for quite awhile, until at least maybe 2008 or so. 🙂

In summer 2004, AG was also selling some really cool popstar outfits for the Today dolls! My favorite is the blue paisley dress in the middle, although I really think all of them are cute. There were also neat-looking instruments that the dolls could play, which really worked! Even Coconut could join in on the fun! I wish AG still made little accessory sets for her, because this one-along with the others they made for her- looked super adorable. 😉

Moving onto fall 2004 now. 🙂 I love the outfit that the doll is wearing on the catalog cover!

Some more doll outfits and school stuff. Notice that the backpack (which came with several accessories) cost $20 at this time. That sounds like a bargain nowadays! If American Girl had a backpack like that in 2015, I’m sure it would cost at least $40.

They also had these same outfits (as well as the backpack and other accessories) for girls, too! 🙂

The Today dolls page got a little bit of a makeover, too! There are now more dolls displayed in the catalog than there were before. I wonder what made AG decide to put more of them in?

There were also some interesting Halloween costumes for the dolls. I don’t really like the Spider/Witch one, but the Grecian Princess outfit is very pretty. 🙂 I love how Coconut got her own chariot, too! 😀

Gymnastics, soccer, and riding outfits. Notice that none of them are pink–not even a little pink! 😀 Why can’t AG make sports outfits like these ones nowadays? They look so much more normal than pink soccer uniforms!

Pajamas, bedding, etc. Some of you might have noticed that the bed featured here is actually the same one Basilmentos (on YouTube) uses in several of her videos. 🙂

Some Coconut (and Licorice!) stuff…I love that doll outfit on the left page! I wish American Girl had never changed Coconut’s look.

Wow, even more Coconut stuff!! I never knew AG had so many Coconut things. Before I got this catalog, most of this stuff I had never seen before!

Now, let’s take a peek at the Holiday 2004 catalog.

You know how American Girl comes out with a new holiday outfit/outfits every year?Well, this outfit was the one they released in 2004. I personally think that it is REALLY cute! That skirt is gorgeous! And I love the doll that’s wearing it (TM #24). I’ve always wanted her. 🙂

The American Girl of Today dolls got new outfits, too! This one was available until late 2006, I believe, so I remember it. 🙂 They also released a couple of new dolls, one of which was #24. Don’t all the girls look cute? 😉

I love this picture!

They had a girl-sized version of the new meet outfit too! I would have loved to wear something like this. The only thing I don’t like is that the jacket looks way too short.

Bath stuff. Coconut looks so cute in her “private tub”! XD They had that bathtub for years, and I guess they technically still do have it except it’s a little different-looking now. I love the doll bathrobe, too!

Here are some more cute outfits. I especially love the “Weekend Fun Outfit” that’s on the far right. And Coconut looks so funny with her little sailor’s hat and life preserver! 😀

I hope you enjoyed taking a peek at the Girl of Today stuff with me! Next time (and I will do it really soon, I promise!!), I’ll show you what was available for these dolls in 2005. 🙂

Have a great rest of your day!

100 Random Questions

Hey everybody! I’m back from vacation, and even though I did miss all of you so much, I had a really great time just relaxing and being with my family.

Anyway, Lydia did these questions on her blog, and they looked like a lot of fun, so I decided to do them, too! Here we go:

1. Grab the book nearest to you, turn to page 18, and find line 4.

That would be Frindle by Andrew Clements. And what do you know, there’s only a picture on page 18, no words! So, let’s skip to page 19:
“because he hardly ever had homework. Oh, sure-”
Words to live by. 😉

2. Stretch your left arm out as far as you can, What can you touch?

My clock radio on my night table. 🙂

3. What is the last thing you watched on TV?

QVC (don’t laugh). The Orthaheel guy was on (he’s from Australia and he sells shoes), and I’m fascinated by that man. Plus he always seems to be on. So I watched him for a little bit, and I learned that he has interesting fashion sense (I think he was wearing either dark purple or dark red pants with a blue and white shirt?).

4. Without looking, guess what time it is.

6:55 pm.

5. Now look at the clock. What is the actual time?

6:52 pm. Wow, am I good or what? (Okay, fine, I looked at a clock not too long before I answered this question…so I guess I’m not as good as I thought I was. 😉 )

6. What is on the walls of the room you are in?

I’m in my room, so…a “Peace and Love” fuzzy poster that I got at the craft store and colored in myself, a pink mirror, my “honor roll” award from when I was still in public school (that I need to take down), a diploma that my parents made me for finishing one school year, a crucifix (cross), and a purple clock that’s currently broken.

7. Are you listening to music right now?

Nope! But I do have Avalon’s The Glory stuck in my head right now, so…I guess that counts. 😉

8. What color is your bedroom carpet?

I don’t have carpet in my bedroom, but I do have a medium-sized purple, pink, and white striped rug by my bed.

9. What is the first thing you think of when you wake up in the morning?

What I have planned for the day, or what I’m going to have for breakfast. 😉

10. If you could eat lunch with one famous person, who would it be?

Pope Francis. Hey, he’s coming to the States soon, it could happen! 😛 Even though I don’t live in Pennsylvania…

11. Who sent you the last text message you received?

Uh…the phone company. They were trying to sell me something. 🙂 If that doesn’t count though, then my aunt. 😉

12. What did you do for your last birthday?

I went out to lunch with my family, and then we stayed at our favorite hotel for one night. It was great. 🙂 We went swimming and ate snacks. Plus the weather was great, so we did a lot of walking too! 😀

13. Is the glass half empty or half full?

Half full! What else would it be?

14. If you could meet any one person (from history or currently alive), who would it be?

That’s hard! Um….Valerie Tripp.

15. What’s under your bed?

Shoes, dust, and the big bin where we keep all our gift wrap. 😀

16. Think fast, what do you like right now?

Chocolate chip cookies!

17. Do you sing in the shower?

Nooo…sadly, I don’t.

18. What do you want to be when you grow up?

Either a mom , an author, or a teacher. Or all three! 😀

19. If you could go anywhere in the world on vacation where would you go?

I just got back from a vacation (to NJ!). I might want to go back there, because it was fun. I’d also like to go to Fredericksburg, Virginia (it’s really nice there!), England, Germany, Italy, or Australia/New Zealand.

20. Are you a morning person or a night owl?

Kind of both…but I think more of a morning person.

21. Can you touch your nose with your tongue?

I will try and get back to you on that…okay, don’t think I can. :/

22. Can you close your eyes and raise your eyebrows?

That I can do. 🙂

23. Do you have pets?

Yup! An adorable husky named Gracie.

24. What is your best childhood memory?

I have a lot, but I think my favorite would probably either be: my cousin’s wedding, where I was a flower girl, or when I went to theater day camp in third grade. That was fun. 🙂

25. What’s your favorite color?

Purple! Like a light purple, not dark purple. I’m very specific. 😉 I also like pink, blue, and yellow. 🙂

26. What’s your favorite food?

Chicken tenders!!

27. What’s your favorite dessert?

Ice cream. 🙂

28. How old are you?

I can’t say exactly, but I am a teenager.

29. What are some of your favorite books?

American Girl books (of course!), anything by Andrew Clements, Chicken Soup for the Soul books (especially the Christmas ones!), and many, many more!

30. What are some of your favorite movies?

Godspell, Anne of Green Gables, The Prince of Egypt, and The Sound of Music.

31. What kind of music are you into?

Anything Christian! Especially contemporary Christian music. Some of my favorite groups/artists are Avalon, Jump5, ZOEgirl, Rebecca St. James, for KING & COUNTRY, Francesca Battistelli…the list just goes on and on and on.

32. If you were going to write a book, what would you call it and what would it be about?

Hmm. Well, I kind of already wrote my ideal “book” (it’s really a short story), called Dare to Be Different. (I’ll hopefully be posting it on here soon.) It’s basically about just being yourself even if others think you’re strange. 🙂

33. What accomplishment are you most proud of?

Probably when I got an A+ on my research report for school last year. 🙂 I worked hard on that thing!

34. If you could visit any country in the world, where would you go?

35. Who are some people you’d like to meet someday?

Didn’t we just do this one…? Anyway, I’d love to meet all my readers and followers! 😀 (I actually feel like I’ve met all of you already, though!) I’d also love to meet other bloggers like Liz and Jaclynn.
Oh, and Jump5-but as kids, not as twenty-something grownups like they are now. :/ They seem like the type of people I’d want to hang around with. Plus maybe they’d teach me how to do some of their awesome dance moves/gymnastic routines.

36. What’s one of your favorite habits you have?

Probably the one where I say I’ll put something away, but don’t…and I’ll keep walking past the item. 😛 That happened to me a few weeks ago. I took my cassette tape box out of my room so I could put it in the basement, and I left it in the upstairs hallway, telling myself I’d take it with me the next time I went downstairs. Well…every time I went downstairs after that, I’d forget the box…and every time I’d go up the stairs, there it was, waiting for me! (It actually was pretty funny.) I ended up finally bringing it down the basement at bedtime. 😛

37. What are some things that make you really happy?

Writing, dolls, stuffed animals, Avalon, my tablet, candy, traveling/being with my family, blogging, and reading!! 😀

38. What are some things that scare you?

Bugs, mice, death, the end of the world, and getting really sick. (I know, interesting combination.)

39. Do you like to plan things out in detail or be spontaneous?

It depends, but I really love to plan things out, so…the first one. 😉

40. Would you rather live in the country or the city?

The country. I went to the city once, and was super afraid that I was going to get lost. (I didn’t, luckily!)

41. Do you have any brothers or sisters? How many?

One terrific sister!

42. What’s your favorite part of today so far?

When we went to my aunt and uncle’s house for a little while, and I got to see my baby cousin Holly! 😀

43. What’s your favorite joke?

I don’t really know a lot of jokes…

44. Do you like spicy food?

Yes! As long as it’s not super spicy, I’ll eat it!

45. If you were a type of animal, what would you be and why?

A dog. Everyone loves them, and if I were one, everyone would love me!

46. What’s one of the strangest things you’ve ever done?

Umm…probably the time a few months ago where I almost ate a ladybug. (Don’t worry, it was by accident-it landed on my water bottle, and I didn’t see it until I put my mouth on the opening….eww!!!)

47. What are some of your major goals in life?

To get married, have some kids, and…I don’t know what else. Be a good mom, probably. Oh, and to get to Heaven one day, of course!

48. What are some of your smaller goals in life?

Collect more dolls and stuffed animals, maybe. And to improve my photography skills. 🙂

49. If you could try out any job for one day, what would you like to try?

A pet photographer! Now that would be cool.

50. What’s your earliest memory?

Mmm…getting a Halloween catalog in the mail, and being both fascinated and freaked out by all those Halloween costumes.

51. What’s the biggest decision you ever made?

Not sure. Probably either to be homeschooled (although it was mainly my parents’ idea, I just agreed to it), or to start this blog. 🙂

52. Who’s your best/closest friend?

My sis, but I also have two cousins that I’m extremely close to.

53. If you could learn on random skill, what would you learn?

How to do gymnastics! Then I’d be able to do all sorts of flips and stuff. That would be fun. Maybe I’d get even better than Jump5! 😛

54. Are you an introvert or an extrovert?

Kind of both, but mostly extrovert. I really can start up a conversation with almost anyone. My cousin always says that I’m “such a people person”!

55. Do you think people can control their own destiny?

Nope. Only God. 😉

56. What are some of the first things you do in the morning?

I wake up, go on the Internet/check my mail, and eat breakfast. And, of course, thank God for another great day. 🙂

57. If someone were to make a movie about your life, who would you hope to play you?

Maybe Christy Carlson Romano (from Even Stevens)? She looks a lot like me, and her character on Even Stevens (Ren) is similar to me in a way. Or Rebecca St. James, because I think she acts or has acted. She doesn’t look like me, and I’m not Australian, but whatever! 😛 There’s always wigs, and she can hopefully do an American accent.

58. Would you rather be hated or forgotten?

Forgotten. I have a good reason for this, too. My mom is one of six siblings, and so all of them, as well as their families, are kind of “famous” in our community. It gets annoying to say, “Oh, yeah, we’re part of the (my mom’s maiden name) family”. Plus, anyone who has met me and/or my sister doesn’t really forget either of us, which I guess is a good thing, but not when you run into someone from your old school. :/ So yeah, I’d rather be forgotten.

59. When’s your birthday?

In the fall. 🙂

60. How tall are you?

Five foot seven, I think. 😉 So yeah, I’m way up there.

61. If you were a super hero what powers would you have?

I’d want to be invisible and travel back in time. I don’t know if I’d want to fly, though. I’m kind of afraid of heights.

62. What is your favorite holiday?

Christmas, of course! 😀

63. Can you tap dance?

64. What’s your favorite pizza topping?

Pepperoni and/or sausage! Mushrooms are good too. 🙂

65. What’s your favorite song?

It’s always changing, but right now I’m particularly fond of Undeniably You by Avalon. If you’d like to listen to it on YouTube, click here.

66. Do you prefer baths or showers?

Showers! 😀 I actually just took one before dinner. And anyway, I can’t even take baths because our tub doesn’t work right anymore. :/

67. What color socks are you wearing?

I’m not wearing socks right now–I’m actually wearing flip-flops!

68. How many pillows do you sleep with?

Just one. 😉 But one night on vacation, I woke up with indigestion (because we ate dinner late and I had a really creamy, heavy soup with my meal), so my mom gave me another pillow to help with that.

69. Do you prefer sunrises or sunsets?

Sunrises. A whole new day is just beginning! 😀

70. What do you typically have for breakfast?

It depends on what we have in the house. But usually, either cereal or yogurt (or sometimes both!).

71. Have you ever been in a newspaper?

Yes. A store at the mall was closing, and the reporter got a picture of my family looking through the empty store window. 🙂 Also, a few months ago, my aunt’s town had their annual community yard sale, and the newspaper was there taking pictures. My mom and I tried really hard to get in a picture, and I’m sure the photographer knew what we were doing. But we didn’t get in, unfortunately.

72. What’s the longest you’ve gone without sleep?

Dunno. A couple of nights last summer, though, I didn’t fall asleep till around 3am…does that count?

73. What’s been your best present?

I’d have to say the blue backpack with roses all over it that I got for Christmas last year. I love it!

74. Have you ever sleepwalked?

Not that I know of.

75. Can you do any accents other than your own?

Not sure. I guess I can kind of do a British accent, and an Australian accent, too. I was pretending to talk like Rebecca St. James on vacation, but I’m not sure how great of a job I did. It was funny, though. 🙂

76. What are your favorite smell/scents?

Vanilla, cakes baking, mowed grass, perfume.

77. Are you left or right handed?

Right handed!

78. Are you a clean or messy person?

I’m pretty clean. 🙂

79. Who would you want to play in a movie about your life?

Refer to question #57, please. 😉

80. Who’s your favorite villain?

Captain Hook, probably. We’re big on Peter Pan around here. XD

81. If you were in a band, what instrument/role would you play?

Background vocals, probably. I love the way the background singers blend with the leads. 🙂

82. Do you talk to yourself?

Nope, but I do talk to the dog a lot when no one else is in the room. So I guess kind of.

83. Do you sing to yourself?

Sometimes, but not as much as I used to.

84. What’s your favorite Disney movie?

I love so many of them, but either Beauty and the Beast, Peter Pan, or Mary Poppins.

85. Do you always wear identical socks?

I don’t wear socks much in the summer, but when I do wear socks, yes, they’re identical.

86. What’s the most unusual name you ever came across?

Uh…Shia LaBeouf. Not even 100% sure I spelled that right. 😉

87. Have you ever walked into a wall?

Yes! I think I did it today actually…

88. What color are your eyes?

89. Are you allergic to anything?

Nope! Unless springtime pollen counts.

90. Have you ever heard any outstanding rumors about yourself?

Luckily, no!

91. If you had a warning label, what would yours say?

WARNING: Incredibly sweet and talented girl who loves to talk nonstop about anything and everything that interests her!

92. What was the last thing you ate?

A mini Twix bar. 😉

93. Which fictional character do you wish was real?

Ramona Quimby. 🙂 I looked a lot like her in second grade.

94. Do you like vanilla or chocolate?

Both. 😉

95. Which would you rather have if you had to, a broken leg or a broken arm?

A broken leg.

96. What nicknames do you have/had etc?

Hmmm….does Sunny count?

97. If you were to become a famous singer, what would your debut album be called?

Tough one. Mmm…how about Sunny Skies? I like how that sounds.

98. Have you ever performed in front of a large audience?

Yes…at school concerts and such, back when I went to public school.

99. If you met a Genie who offered you three wishes, what would you wish for? (More wishes does not count)

1. To have more friends in the real world.
2. To have a wonderful rest of my life.
3. For love, peace, and respect in the world.

100. If you ruled your own country, who would you get to write your national anthem?

for KING & COUNTRY, of course! I mean, just look at their name-country’s right in it!

Wow! It took me almost three hours to answer these questions, but I had fun! I hope you enjoyed reading these answers, and learning a little bit more about me. 🙂

Have a great night!

I was nominated by Victoria (AG Cupcake Lover) for the World Doll Day tag! Thanks so much, Victoria!!

Here are the questions:

List 3 favorite dolls that you bought last year.

*cricket noise* Ummmm…welll…I didn’t buy any dolls last year, actually. This time last year, I was only just discovering the world of doll blogs/AG Tube, and I didn’t know that it was a thing to take pictures of your dolls, collect them, and other things like that yet. So…I didn’t buy any dolls unfortunately.

List 3 dolls currently on your wishlist.

1. My AG Truly Me #24 (Light skin, curly blond hair with freckles, brown eyes)-I’ve loved this doll now for over a year, and I think she is super cute. If I ever bought another AG doll (which I hopefully will someday!), this girl would be my first pick.

2. Journey Girls Mikaella (Brunette)-This doll was actually a Limited Edition Holiday doll last year, and I never knew about her until a couple of months ago. I personally think she is super pretty, and I like her so much more than the blond Mikaella (who is still available). Sadly, she is now very expensive on Amazon, so I’m not sure if I’ll ever buy her. Well, maybe someday, who knows?

3. American Girl Rebecca-I never cared too much for Rebecca until the Beforever launch last summer, and now I think that she’s such a cute doll! 😀 If I chose another historical doll to add to my collection, I’d definitely want to choose Rebecca.

OK, I’m now supposed to nominate five people for this tag, so here are my choices:

-Christian Homeschooler from Treasured Friendships with a Flair
-Lydia from DollyFernFriends
-Kathleen from Dolls and Dance
-Madison from Delightful World of Dolls
-Loren from Happy House of AG

(I apologize in advance if you’ve already received the award…)

Also, Lydia nominated me for the Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award! Thanks, Lydia!!

-Thank the blogger who nominated you, linking back to their site.
-Put the award logo on your blog.
-Answer the ten questions sent to you.
-Make up ten new questions for your nominees to answer.
-Nominate ten blogs.

Here are her questions:

If you and your best friend(s) were going to dress up in matching/coordinating outfits, what would you choose? (i.e. salt and pepper)
Well, let’s see. Since one of my best friends is my sister, we’d probably go as spaghetti and meatballs, since we both really love Italian food. 😀

Popcorn or bacon?
Um…as much as I love bacon, I’d have to go with popcorn. Bacon doesn’t always agree with me… :/ (And neither do most things with eggs as the main ingredient, sadly…like scrambled/deviled eggs, egg salad, etc.)

What is your favorite band?
Right now, Avalon is my all-time favorite. 😉

Do you eat the little mints or chocolates the waiters/waitresses sometimes give you at restaurants after you pay your bill?
Of course!! They’re so good (especially mint chocolates!). I also love the mints they give you at the car rental places. My family has learned to basically reserve them for me.

Favorite snack food?
I like a lot of snack foods, but my favorite is probably Cool Ranch Doritos. (My mom ate them when she was pregnant with me, no wonder I love them so much! :D) I never get tired of them!

Have you ever listened to Owl City?
Yes, and it’s because of you (Lydia)! I was reading about Owl City on your blog, and I thought, Wow, this guy sounds great! I’ll have to check out his music now. (Yes, Owl City is made up of one person. Which I don’t actually understand because it’s called Owl City.) I haven’t heard much of Owl City yet–only You’re Not Alone and Fireflies–but I’ve definitely really enjoyed what I have heard!

Book you are reading right now/book you just finished?
Currently I am reading (actually, re-reading) A Week in the Woods by Andrew Clements. It’s a great book!

What was your favorite book when you were little?
Well, I was particularly fond of The Poky Little Puppy. It’s so cute! 🙂

Opinion on sushi?
I’ve never tried it, but from what I’ve heard, it doesn’t sound like something I’d like.

Can you boil water without burning it?
I’m not sure what this question is supposed to mean. I don’t know if it’s saying “is it impossible to boil water without burning it”, or “am I able to boil water without burning it”. So…I’m just going to play it safe and say…yes. 😉

I nominate:
-Emma from Wack-A-Doodle Dolls
-Megan from A Barefoot Gal
-Alison from A Farm Girl’s Life
-Hayley from Flourishing By Restful Falls
-Shelby from Every Bit of Lovely

Here are my questions:

-What is your opinion on hard candy (do you like it/not like it, etc.)? And if you do like it, what’s your favorite kind?
-Do you like Christian music?
-If you answered ‘yes’ to the previous question, do you have a favorite Christian artist or band?
-Summer or winter?
-Would you rather celebrate Christmas in July or Christmas in December?
-What did you dream about last night?
-What are your plans for the rest of summer?
-Lemonade, iced tea, or both? 🙂
-What did you eat for breakfast this morning?
-If you’re into photography/have a camera, what’s your favorite thing to take a picture of?

Have a great night!

American Girl Flashback: Girl of the Year Dolls

Oh my gosh, is this extremely overdue or what?! I honestly meant to get this up days ago, but I hadn’t been able to upload the pictures until last week. Thanks so much for your patience, guys!! (BTW, click here to go to the other AG Flashback I did before this one.)

In this edition of AG Flashback, we’re going to be taking a look at the Girls of the Year from 2004, 2005, and 2006 (Kailey, Jess, and Marisol, respectively). The GOTY collections were definitely not as big as they are today, so it’s fun to compare these girls’ collections with ones of  recent GOTYs, such as Grace and Isabelle.

Let’s start by looking at the Summer 2004 catalog. At the time, the Girl of the Year was Kailey.

A lot of people think that Kailey sold for two years, not just one. But I actually researched it and discovered that she only sold for one year. Kailey was actually introduced in July 2003, and retired just one year later, in July 2004. In fact, I have proof…

The orange star-shaped design in the top left hand corner says, Don’t miss Kailey! She’s only here through July 1, 2004 or while supplies last.
Pretty interesting, right?

Since Kailey was only the second Girl of the Year (after Lindsey in 2001), she had a pretty small collection. Her Wet Suit and Bikini actually came together in one set. Then she had a snorkel set, a beach towel a boogie board, and a dog named Sandy. That was it! Can you believe that? (Oh, and there was also a girl-sized bikini, too. 😉 )

Something funny is that the boogie board was only $20 at the time!! WOW! I’m sure now it would probably be like $50.

Now, moving on to the Summer 2005 catalog, it’s time to view Marisol’s collection!

Here’s Marisol in her Spotlight Outfit. She looks darling in it. 🙂 There was also a separate “Spotlight Stage” you could buy, which also came with a tiara.

Marisol’s Tap Outfit (which was $26, a great deal for all that it came with!). In the top right hand corner is her book (yes, the GOTYs only came with one book back then!). I really recommend that you read it, it’s one of my favorite Girl of the Year books. Even though Marisol’s into dance, it talks about other things besides her dancing, like her school, her family, and the struggle of moving to a new town. She seems like just a normal kid–I loved her book ten times more than Isabelle’s.

Some more of Marisol’s stuff. I love her jazz outfit-purple overload!! 😛 She looks really cute in it, too!

Finally, here’s Marisol’s Ballet Outfit (which was only $22-I’m sure AG would’ve raised the price times two if they sold this outfit nowadays!), along with her “Whole World Collection”, which was $249 (EXPENSIVE!!). Even though the price for all of Marisol’s stuff is really high, it’s fair, because it comes with a stage and dance trunk, along with all of the outfits. In my opinion, Marisol’s collection is so much nicer than Isabelle’s, and the public back in 2005 must’ve loved it too, because Marisol sold out ten days before Christmas that year!! Can you believe it? Even though Marisol was a doll of color! This is just another reason why American Girl should really release another non-white Girl of the Year. 🙂 That’s proof that they really do  sell well!

Moving on to the March 2006 catalog, let’s take a look at Jess’ collection! (BTW, I love that purple dress on the front cover.)

Here is the lovely Jess! 😀 She was such a gorgeous doll. I also really love her adorable fuzzy green monkey!!

From these pictures, it might look like Jess had a smaller collection than Marisol, but that’s actually not the case. She also had some cute aqua pajamas, as well as a motorscooter. They’re not in this catalog, though, since they were released later on in the year.

I love the little blurb on the side of this page-what a cute idea! I personally think the catalog scenes in AG’s older catalogs were a lot more creative and thought-out than they are now.

Well folks, that’s all for this edition of AG Flashback! Next time we’ll be taking a peek at some of the American Girl of Today (or Truly Me as it’s now called) stuff from the past. See ya!

**Oh, and there WILL be a Throwback Thursday today, so stay tuned!! 😀 **

Colonial Girl

Hi everyone! Happy Fourth of July! Since today is our country’s birthday, I thought it would be a good idea to post some pictures from a photoshoot I did with Felicity a few weeks ago. She’s wearing her meet dress (which is from 1774) in these photos, which is very appropriate for today in my opinion. 😉 Enjoy!

Climbing up to the top…

Almost there…

YAYYY! She made it! 😀

I love this picture. image

(Sorry about the quality of this picture…I didn’t realize until after this picture that my camera was in the wrong setting. 😛 )

Let me know what your favorite picture was, guys! Have a great day and GO USA! 😀

American Girl New Releases: My Opinions (Part One)

Hey everyone! It’s funny, I had completely forgotten that last Thursday was the day American Girl would release their new items…until I saw Loren’s post in my feed. Then I sped on over to the AG site to check out the items for myself! 😀 I’m going to split this up into parts, so in this post, I’ll be showing all the new Truly Me items, and sharing my opinions on them. Click the links and take a look at them if you’d like!

Recess Ready Outfit for Dolls-This is a pretty cute outfit, although it’s not my favorite. I do like the different colored polka-dots on the tunic, though. 😉

Hairstyle Tools-I honestly think this set looks kind of cheap. Also, for all that you get with it, it’s pretty expensive. $20 for some bobby pins and hair elastics? You can probably get those for 3 bucks at Wal-Mart!

Sparkle Sweater Outfit for Dolls-The sweater and skirt go really well together, however, the boots definitely don’t match the rest of the outfit at all. I really like the boots by themselves, just not paired with this outfit. I personally think that the sweater is adorable, though-I have a blue one that looks a lot like it! 😀

Hot Lunch Set-I absolutely love fake food, so I thought this was really cool when I first saw it. I do think it’s a little overpriced, though. ($28)

Flip-Top Desk-This set is pretty cute. I don’t really like how the chair is attached to the desk, but other than that, it’s not too bad. I personally think that for everything that comes with it, it’s priced pretty fairly ($58).

Terrier Puppy-Even though I think that this puppy is absolutely adorable, I’m a little bored by all the pets nowadays. They’re cute, but they don’t have names (except for Coconut), and they just look so cheap to me. I’m not sure if this is true or not, but I heard that AG might be retiring Coconut. I really hope that doesn’t happen (even though I don’t like the new Coconut). When I think of AG pets, Coconut always comes first to my mind! It would be sad if they just got rid of her.

Science Fair Set-Other than the telescope, the parts of this set look cheap-y in my opinion. Also the price is kind of outrageous for a telescope and a cardboard display/stickers—$32! I do like that you can change the slides on the telescope, though-that is so cool!

Stylin’ Bangs-I don’t really like these, but it is a neat idea if you’re someone who’s always wished that your doll had bangs. 😉

Basketball Outfit for Dolls-I’m not a basketball person, but I think this is such a cool outfit! I love the colors (no pink, yay!), and the doll-sized basketball is sooo cute. 🙂

Sports Storage Bench-Not really a fan of this one. To be honest, the sports stuff that comes with this set (mainly the football) just looks so small to me. So that kind of ticks me off. It is kind of adorable, though.

Mod Monster Costume for Dolls-I really don’t like the wig…it is so weird and just dumb-looking. I do like the boots and the dress, though-they could be worn anytime, not just for Halloween/a costume party.

Double Braid Headband-I don’t think this is a necessary item for AG to sell, plus it’s $20. You could probably just make double braids in your doll’s hair yourself…for free!

Slow Cooker Dinner Set-This is definitely one of my favorite new items. The food is SO cute! I especially love the little glasses of milk. 🙂 The only thing that I don’t love about this set is the price. $58, really?!

Sparkle Sneakers-I guess these are kind of cute. They’re not my favorite, but I do like how they’re sparkly. 🙂 What I don’t understand is why they’re called “sneakers”. They don’t have laces! Shouldn’t they be called slip-ons instead?

Shearling Boots-These look super cozy, and I love the purple color! I do wish that they were a few dollars less, though. $16 for a pair of doll boots is way overpriced.

Sparkle Socks and Leggings-Pretty boring…but AG did pick some good colors to sell these socks (and leggings) in. 🙂

Tweed Drivers Cap-OH MY GOSH, this is SO cute!! 😀 Definitely another one of my favorite new items. I would really love to have this someday!!

Fun Fedora-I really like this! I especially love that the stripe around the hat is blue and NOT PINK! 😀 Finally!

Silver Sparkle Beanie-For some reason, this reminds me of Isabelle. I like the other two hats better, but this one is pretty cute too.

Striped Hoodie for Dolls-I really like the color of this hoodie! It’s the perfect blending of pink and red in my opinion. $14 isn’t a bad price for this either. My only complaint is that the jacket seems a little too short, but it’s fine. 😉

Rhinestone Baseball Cap for Dolls-This is adorable! I think it would look great on my Felicity.

Well, that’s all for the new Truly Me items! In part 2, we’ll take a look at the new Beforever things. 🙂

Have a great rest of your day!

Random Photos of Kit (and Casey…)

Hi all! Wow, I didn’t realize till now that I haven’t posted since Saturday. Sorry about that! Today I’m back with some cute photos of Kit (along with my Webkinz koala, Casey) that I took on Memorial Day.

Here’s Miss Kit sitting on my bed! 🙂 She’s wearing an adorable Springfield outfit that I’d bought that day when my family went to Michael’s. I personally think it looks great on her!

And then here’s Casey, Kit’s new best friend! (Seriously, I cannot seperate these two from each other…they’re best buds now!)

I wanted to get this cute picture of Kit…but Casey decided to be annoying and photobomb this picture…. 😉

One last closeup shot of Kit. 🙂 If you’re thinking of getting her, I’d highly recommend it. She is such an adorable doll, and her hair is really easy to take care of.

Hope you all enjoyed these pictures! Have an awesome rest of your day! 🙂

American Girl Flashback: Historical Characters/Best Friend Dolls

Hi everyone!! Today I’ll be giving you all a peek at some of my old American Girl catalogs that came in the mail the other day. (If you have no idea what I’m talking about, go here.)

First, here are all the catalogs together. 🙂

I’m not going to use pictures from all the catalogs in this post, since a lot of it is just the same stuff over and over. But I picked out four of these to show you all what AG had for the historical characters in the past. 🙂

First, let’s start off with the Holiday 2004 catalog!

Right here we have an advertisement for the Samantha movie, which was just being released at the time. (If you haven’t seen this movie yet, I highly recommend checking it out!) Don’t Samantha and Nellie look so cute on the right? 🙂

Here’s Nellie in a full-page spread! (Sorry about my finger being there, I had to flatten the page down a little. 😉 ) Nellie was such a cute doll, and I really wish AG still sold her. (Fun fact: I actually almost got Nellie the year she was retired, but she was sold out, so I got Kit instead. 🙂 )

Here are all the other lovely Historicals that were being sold at the time. Except for Samantha, none of the girls’ book covers had been changed yet!

I thought this little quiz was interesting. (In case you’re wondering, I’m most like Josefina. 😉 ) But what bugs me is the little paragraph at the bottom of the page. This is what it says:

We strive to make the accessories in The American Girls Collection with the most authentic materials available, which is why we recommend them for girls 8 and up. So please handle them with care! We hope you’ll be able to cherish these playthings for years to come.

Well, that sure isn’t true now, is it?

Here are Samantha and Nellie in their beautiful sleigh…

…and in their winter coats!! 😀 I like Samantha’s old winter coat way more than her new one.

Here are some of the girls in their “special edition” outfits that were out at the time. Molly looks so cute in her dude ranch outfit!!

Kit and Addy have adorable new outfits, too! Blue is definitely Addy’s color. 🙂

Kaya didn’t get a special outfit (sadly 😦 ), but she did have this breathtaking shawl outfit at the time. So pretty! Why did they retire this?

All right, let’s move along to the summer 2005 catalog.

Nellie, Kaya, and Addy each got new dance outfits that summer. Kaya got a Pow-Wow Dress of Today, Nellie received an Irish Dance Outfit of Today, and Addy was given an African Dance Outfit of Today. My favorite is definitely Nellie’s. The picture of her Irish step-dancing is too cute! 🙂 It seems that Kaya and Addy were a lot less neglected by American Girl at the time-especially Kaya. I think it’s really sad how she barely has any outfits now!

The historical characters’ pages had updated a bit since the last catalog. They all had the new covers by this point, too, which was great! Felicity still didn’t make her reappearance until fall of the same year…with Elizabeth, but we’ll get to that in a second. 😉

Here’s something really cool: that summer, Kit, Samantha, and Molly got new beach outfits and accessories. Molly’s must have been the most popular, because hers was around until she retired a few years ago. I personally think Kit’s outfit is super cute, although she does remind me a little bit of a bug in it. 😉 And Samantha looks gorgeous as always! Somehow, I get the feeling that if they released a “bathing outfit” for her now, it would be pink. Who’s with me on that one?

Skipping ahead to the December 2005 catalog… and Felicity is BACK! 😀

Here’s Felicity and Elizabeth together, along with an ad for Felicity’s movie, which was released at this time. (That’s a really good movie too! The only historical AG movie that I don’t have. 😉 )

Introducing Elizabeth! (ignore my hand 😉 )

Here are some more pictures of Felicity and Elizabeth’s collection. The last picture is my favorite. 😉 Felicity’s Tea Lesson Gown is so beautiful, I wish I had gotten it before she’d retired.

Merchandise revolving around the American Girl mystery books, which were pretty new at the time. Those puzzles look super fun!

Finally, the last catalog we’ll be looking at today…July 2006 (which also celebrated AG’s 20th anniversary!).

A little blurb about the woman on the cover and her American Girl memories. Apparently she’d been on the spring 1990 catalog cover too, which I thought was pretty cool.

The Historical Character page changed once again in this catalog. 🙂

Here’s something that I thought was really cool: Kirsten’s recess set! I’d never seen this before, so I’m assuming that it wasn’t a very big seller. To me it looks like it would be a fun item to have, though. Plus I absolutely love that picture of Kirsten “playing” at recess! 😀

A spotlight on Josefina! American Girl should really be ashamed of the way they’ve been treating her lately. It seems that back around this time, they gave her much more attention than they do now.

Kit, Samantha, and Molly once again got new outfits that year (I’m assuming they were the most popular dolls at the time). This time, they received new outdoor play outfits! Kit’s was a Scooter Outfit (so cute!), Molly’s was a Roller-Skating Outfit, and Samantha’s was a Bicycling Outfit. They also, of course, got a scooter, roller skates, and a bike, respectively. Doesn’t Samantha’s old bike look so much more historically accurate than her new one?

And finally, a two-page spread dedicated to Samantha (and Nellie)’s collection! 🙂

I hope you enjoyed seeing what was available for the Historical Characters from 2004-2006. Next time, we’ll take a look at the Girls of the Year during those three years (Kailey, Marisol, and Jess)!

Have a great rest of your day!
